Last August I hosted a workshop in western Iceland alongside Carey Nershi, Linda Lomelino, Maggie Pate, Ingrid Hofstra, and Erla Gretarsdottir. We were joined by an incredibly talented group of wondrously adventurous women and spent the next few days together taking in some of the most awe-inspiring landscapes in the world together, and shooting food on locally-made ceramicist’s Bjarni Sigurðsson’s beautiful hand-forged dishes in between outings. Shannen, Andrea, Dale, Sif, Anette, Jennifer, Julia, Joanna, Jen, you are so much such fun and so truly gifted, and I couldn’t think of a more wonderful group of people to go adventuring with.

And adventuring we did! During the workshop we went horseback riding with the Laxnes horse farm along mist-filled mossy green rolling hills, we visited the Secret Lagoon natural hot  springs and picnicked before soaking in the warm and tranquil water. We visited Seljalandsfoss and stood behind the waterfall as the mist started wafting down onto our faces and coats, then set up a picnic blanket in a grassy clearing and had the most epic picnic lunch view of all time. We walked up a creek to a tucked-away waterfall and got to stand right next to the majesty of it as it pounded down onto the earth. Maggie taught us to weave on Funem Studio looms with alpaca wool from Fiber Farm. We visited Fontana hot springs and got to see the steam rising from the geothermal lake, which was so large it went all the way to the horizon line, and made the ground so hot that they were able to bake geothermal bread in it. We shot and ate insanely gorgeous and tasty semlor almond buns that Linda made. And we visited traditional Icelandic turf houses, aka the OG “living roof”, alongside a beautiful creek. There is so, so much natural beauty in this country. It’s hard to express what an insanely stunning landscape Iceland has, but I hope these pictures from our workshop help convey it to you.

And if you’re interested in attending a workshop, there are only a handful of spaces left for my 1-day Los Angeles photography + storytelling workshop this December, and you can read more and register via the link below 🙂 I’d love to have you join!
